Growing up mixed race in two different societies (Jamaica and England) was difficult. I didn’t feel like I fitted in either. By the time I was 20, I felt totally alienated and isolated. My life got considerably worse as one minute I was a promising uni student, the next homeless, living in a hostel. My alienation got worse there when I was asked to join two different groups – one white and other other black – I wanted nothing to do with either. It came to the point where I was contemplating ending it all when the hostel I stayed arranged a Christian event. It was there I heard the gospel from a mixed race young man who had the same identity issues as me. He tried to kill himself but failed and someone told him about Jesud and his life was changed. I gave my life to Christ and to cut a long story short, my life was changed, just like that young man. I was delivered from alienation, resentment and insecurities. I knew Jesus was real as everything I tried to be free from my issues never worked but Jesus did. From that time onward I gave my life to the gospel, convinced just others could be helped by his saving grace just like mine.
